Brief History

Genesis of Samaj Kalyan Evam Vikas Adhyayan Kendra (SEVAK) can be traced back to the year 1986 when on the call of the Late Prime Minister, Mr Rajiv Gandhi, a unique initiative was undertaken for extension of the developmental schemes of the Central and State Governments and ensuring that their benefits reached real beneficiaries.  Under this initiative, 60 youths, one for every 20,000 people in rural area and five youths in each urban area, in the age group 20 to 35 years were selected and imparted seven-day residential training. The then Member of Parliament, Mr Bhanu Pratap Singh, and the then District Magistrate, Mr SK Muttu, played a critical role in organising this training workshop between August 31 and September 6, 1986. The training was inaugurated by the former Member of Parliament, Mr DP Roy, the force behind Nehru Yuva Kendra, a body of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, while the District Trainer was trained by the reputed organisations All India Centre for Rural and Urban Development and Asian Cultural and Organisation Development, both in New Delhi.

Soon after the Block Level training workshops, baseline development survey PADYATRA New Delhi there was a change of guard in Pilibhit district Mr Jaishankar Mishra IAS, District Magistrate suggested the trained human resource volunteers for implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the 20-Point Programme. All the trainees were nominated to the 20-Point Committee in the district & to constitute the community development organization.

After proper feedback by District Trainer a veteran socio-Educational Development Activist decided for charity & welfare work, journey from Pilibhit Head Quarter having its most adverse geographical profile Interstate, International Nepal Border. Educationally Health Urban & Rural Development unemployment based on most backward district, despite the Agro base, natural resources forward linkages & good potential for development having social profile of different state base caste religion base families.

Legal Status and Objectives

Samaj Kalyan Evam Vikas Adhyayan Kendra (SEVAK) is a voluntary organisation registered under Section 21 of the Societies Registration Act, 1860, with registration number 2346/88-89. The registration has been renewed periodically.
